Thanks to a friendly community and bright future, the number of businesses calling downtown Greer home is steadily growing. Businesses that have recently opened or are soon to open include an experienced salon, a diner grown out of a food truck, a cigar aficionado’s dream, a restaurant with a French twist, and an addition to Greer’s antique cluster.
Sir George’s White House Salon recently opened at 200 School St in downtown, bringing over 40 years’ experience to Greer. The salon will be full service, with offerings ranging from haircuts for men and women to perms and extensions, as well as nail and waxing services. Owner Colt Davis shared his reasons for choosing Greer. “We wanted to have a location closer to our existing customer base in Greer and be in a position to better serve the Greer community. We want to make ourselves available to more people.”
Gatherings on Main is the newest addition to Greer’s growing antique and vintage cluster, specializing in antique, shabby chic, and vintage items. Located at 506 N Main St, Gatherings on Main also features a classic cafe and event room, making it a great place to meet, eat, and shop. Not far away, a new restaurant with a French twist is opening up at 906 W Poinsett St. Marmalade offers traditional breakfast fare along with adventurous takes on crepes and Eggs Benedict. The restaurant also features a pastry shop, free Wi-Fi, and meeting rooms.
A host of new businesses are set to open their doors downtown before the year is out as well. Cameroon Cigars & Accessories will soon be bringing cigars, fine wine, craft beer, pipe tobacco, and fine gentlemen’s accessories to Trade Street. Local food truck, Dark Corner Diner, has chosen Greer to be the main location for their brick and mortar restaurant. They will be located in the restaurant space at the back of Chelsea’s Ladies Clothing and Accessories. “We picked Greer because everyone we met was so supportive and welcoming,” said Virginia Maclure, owner of Dark Corner Diner. “We felt the government had a young energy and so much potential. We are very excited to be opening in Greer!”
Downtown Greer isn’t the only area attracting new businesses. The Wade Hampton corridor is welcoming a swath of name brand shoe designers at Bargain Hut, located at 14173 East Wade Hampton Blvd, Suite B. Names range from Cole Haan and Johnston & Murphy to Ecco and Aldo, and from Michael Kors and Jessica Simpson to Nine West and Steve Madden. “We heard a lot about Greer and then we saw the traffic, it was a bit unreal,” said the Satterwhites, owners of Bargain Hut, on their decision to locate in Greer. “Greer is becoming even more attractive now with the inland port. This area attracts industry and new businesses.”
