Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce Names President

The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce executive committee is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Marjorie M. Dowd as its new President/CEO.

Dowd has served as the Director of Education and Economic Development at Greenville County Schools since 2010.

Dowd said, “I think Greer’s success is that it has managed to keep its hometown feel and sense of community all the while supporting a world-class, progressive business base. I am thrilled to be chosen to lead the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce as its next president and chief executive officer. My vision includes highlighting our members’ great products and services, increasing collaboration in unique and meaningful ways, and being intentional in our programming efforts.  You will want to be a part of what’s going on #HereInGreer!”

Dowd will begin her duties March 1st.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Marjorie Dowd to lead our Chamber.  She will bring passion, energy, and an impressive history of cultivating partnerships within our community, state, and region.  She values the importance of collaboration that is necessary to support organizational, community, and regional goals.  I look forward to working with Marjorie as she leads our chamber and continues our momentum to support our businesses and community,” said Greer Chamber Chairman Mikelle Porter.

Dr. Dowd has built her career on forming thousands of fruitful partnerships for students, schools, businesses and the community, as the Director of Education and Economic Development for Greenville County Schools. She has worked in career development as an instructor, career counselor, workshop presenter, curriculum writer, and master trainer since 1998. In addition to being a small business owner, she has trained over 250 school counselors, as well as worked with technical college staff, academic institutions, corporations, and nonprofit agencies across the state of South Carolina.

She holds a PhD in educational leadership from Clemson University, a master’s degree in social science from The Citadel, and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of South Carolina.
