The City of Greer has released a Request for Proposals for the Acquisition and Development of the Former Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital Site in Greer. The RFP seeks to identify qualified development groups and individuals capable of acquiring the 9.74 acres on Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greer and developing it in a manner that (1) returns the property to the real property tax rolls of the City of Greer; (2) complements the adjoining commercial areas and neighborhoods in Greer; and (3) creates new jobs.
“It would be difficult to identify a more promising commercial property in the City of Greer. More than 200,000 vehicles per week travel Wade Hampton Boulevard through Greer and the available site is in a prime location for visibility and accessibility,” Mayor Rick Danner said. “Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital served city residents’ health care needs for decades. Repurposing the property will now provide economic benefits to city residents and the future owner.”
The City of Greer acquired the property as a gift from the Greenville Hospital System in 2010. In January of 2016, the City completed demolition of the former Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital and the former Roger Huntington Nursing Center to make the property more attractive for redevelopment opportunities.
Proposals are due not later than 3:00 pm on October 4, 2016. The City of Greer will not entertain proposals with an offer amount less than $2 million.
